Charity Partner
Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is Queensland’s peak beach safety and rescue authority, and is one of the largest volunteer based community service organisations in Australia.
Surf Life Saving Foundation is delighted with its appointment as Major Beneficiary of The Ambiwerra Festival.
The funds raised at the Ambiwerra festival will help get the latest equipment on our Queensland beaches and ensure our volunteer surf lifesavers can pursue our goal of zero preventable deaths and injuries on our beaches.
As a not-for-profit organisation, Surf Life Saving’s survival depends on public and corporate support which accounts for over 80 per cent of our funding.
Surf lifesavers rescue more than 4,000 people in Queensland each year, and perform over 280,000 preventative actions, they nurture, train, inspire and give meaning to the lives of almost 36,000 members of the movement. Our surf lifesavers spent more than 307,000 hours on patrol last year - some 30,000 hours more than the previous season.
With Australians taking shorter seaside holidays more often, more day-trippers, big increases in tourism and massive coastal population growth, the demands on our volunteer surf lifesavers are mounting. It is also costing more and more to provide the necessary rescue equipment and training programs to ensure our surf lifesavers have the skills and equipment to respond in the event of an emergency. Due to the harsh operating environment of the sun, sand and salt water, rescue equipment is in constant need of being repaired and eventually replaced.
Lend a hand to keep our beaches safe and ultimately help our wonderful lifesavers do what they do best – save lives!

Almost 100,000 lives have been saved by surf lifesavers since recording began in 1930, and millions more given peace of mind about their safety in the surf and on the beach.
Saving lives- what is the cost?
To patrol more than 80 beaches, to educate the community on aquatic safety, to purchase rescue and resuscitation equipment, and to insure and support over 25,000 volunteer members, costs millions of dollars each year.
Surf Life Saving relies heavily on the support of the public to fund voluntary beach patrols across Australia. The funding for Surf Life Saving comes from public donation and support, corporate sponsorship and government funding.
85% of Surf Life Saving Queensland’s operating costs are funded by the community each year. |
